A Storm Lake woman was arrested Thursday after leaving her three juvenile children home alone for an extended period of time. At approximately 8:44 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department responded to East Milwaukee Avenue after being contacted by a seven-year-old male child. Upon arrival, officers determined the boy and his six- and one-year-old siblings had been left at home alone. The boy became concerned by his mother’s absence and called 911. The children’s mother, 26-year-old Isabel Sanchez, arrived on the scene about 30 minutes after police and was arrested. She was transported to the Buena Vista County jail and charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. Authorities notified the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), and the three children were left in the custody of a responsible adult family member.
