The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Iowa State Patrol in a special enforcement action this coming Friday, Dec. 22. Lieutenant Jon Cretsinger says this will be the second time the two have worked together in recent weeks for this type of project.
Cretsinger says they had great success with the Thanksgiving event.
These types of special initiatives are a way to educate and help forestall traffic accidents in Carroll County as a part of the High Five Rural Traffic Safety Project. The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) has reviewed crash data from across the state and identified the five counties with the highest fatality rates, mainly related to impaired driving. Carroll County made the list earlier this year, and Cretsinger says these enforcement actions are a way to work toward being removed from that list.
Cretsinger adds it is a matter of planning ahead and thinking before you get behind the wheel. With Christmas falling on a Monday, he says this usually leads to more people starting celebrations with the onset of the weekend, resulting in increased bar traffic and party attendance. But all they truly want to see is people having a good time, and doing it in a way that gets them home safely to their loved ones this holiday season.
