Carroll Couple To Appear In Court In January On Drug Charges

A jury trial for a Carroll couple accused of multiple drug violations has been scheduled for early next. The trial will take place in Iowa’s Second Judicial District on Jan. 9, 2018 at the Carroll County Courthouse. The defendants, 57-year-old Russell Thomas Burdette and 49-year-old Jacqueline Ann Burdette, both face charges of a controlled substance violation, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance—methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from a search warrant executed on July 7 at 420 West 17th St. in Carroll by the Carroll Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. During the search, law enforcement found several pieces of drug paraphernalia, approximately 212 grams of marijuana packed into 28 gram containers, scales and a small vile containing approximately 0.7 grams of methamphetamine. The Burdette’s told authorities the marijuana was for personal use. If found guilty, the each person faces up to six year imprisonment and up to $9,000 in fines.
