Commencing Of The Lake City Pickeball Complex Has Begun, Celebrating With A Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Lake City Pickleball Project committee celebrated all their hard work and dedication to the Lake City Pickleball Complex with a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week. Community supporters and sports enthusiasts braved the wind to witness the official start of construction for the new amenity in Goins Park by the swimming pool. Stacy Corey, a member of the committee and the one given credit for spearheading the whole operation says it’s surreal to see what once were dreams and plans finally become real.

Corey says she and a group of friends came up with the idea after starting to play the sport and quickly falling in love with it. She says they would travel to surrounding communities to play and decided that having a court in Lake City would promote recreational activities and healthy lifestyles.

The committee got to work right away fundraising, making this all happen. Corey says the support the organization has received from the community and businesses has made it all worth it.

So far, the committee has raised $67,000 of the $104,000 needed to complete the project. To continue their fundraising efforts, a Father’s Day raffle is the currently being offered by the group, with a chance to win a 9mm handgun from Springfield Armory and Ready-Fit FieldEarz protection from WildEar. A link to purchase raffle tickets and more upcoming fundraising opportunities is included with this story on our website. To stay up to date, Corey says to make sure to follow the Lake City Pickleball Project on Facebook. The page will post updates on the construction, future classes, or lessons on pickleball fundamentals and for an opening day ceremony to be held in August after the completion of the Pickleball complex.
