Four Assault Charges Levied Against Two Carroll Residents In Altercation At Fairview Apartments

Two Carroll residents have been charged with two counts each of assault after a four-person altercation at the Fairview Apartments on 18th Street. At approximately 11:38 p.m. on Monday night, the Carroll Police Department responded to the apartment of 45-year-old Achoul Chagai Atem to find a fight in progress between Atem and 36-year-old Santino Madut and 38-year-old David Duot. They saw no injuries on any of these parties at that time. In their investigation into the incident, Madut alleges he saw Atem’s daughter, 24-year-old Marna Chotkuach of Carroll, strike her mother. He says he attempted to break up the fight by separating the women and putting Chotkuach in another room. When she came out of that room, she had a nosebleed. She was interviewed at this time, and reported that after she struck her mother, Madut began hitting her. A witness to the altercation, 26-year-old Regina Younis of Carroll, attempted to break up the fight and was allegedly injured by Atem, who pulled hair out of Younis’ head and by Madut who, she says, struck her in the face with a closed fist. Both Atem and Madut were transported to the Carroll County jail and booked on the assault charges.
