Community Organization Fundraising To Restore Iconic Theater In Audubon

Since the 1940s, the Rose Theater has been a landmark in downtown Audubon, but like many of these iconic buildings, its grandeur has faded and it has fallen into disrepair over the years. Recently the Rose was purchased by Audubon Community Cinema (ACC), a non-profit organization of community volunteers who are working to bring the building back into use for movie entertainment in Audubon. According to Linda Blomme, ACC Board President, the 358-seat theater needs substantial work, including a new roof, seats, an all-new digital projection system and it needs to be made handicap accessible. The group is applying for grants and conducting fundraisers to help cover costs to reach their goal of having the volunteer-run organization provide family-friendly movie entertainment every weekend.  On Saturday, April 9, they will be hosting a night filled with food, good humor and auction items at the Agri-Hall on the Audubon County Fairgrounds. The evening will begin with a cocktail/social hour followed by a catered meal. Silent and live auctions will then be held before headliners, The Weisenheimers take the stage. This three-man, award-winning comedy troupe from Omaha offer guaranteed laughs with their fast-paced, energetic improv. Tickets are on sale now for $30 each or $50 for two. They can be purchased at the AMVC Vet Clinic, Audubon State Bank, Landman’s State Bank or by emailing: info@rosemovietheater.com.
