Lake View sewer rates to increase 12.5% in March

Residents in Lake View will notice a 12.5% increase in their sewer rates beginning March 1st. The increase will help offset the costs for two large-scale capital improvement projects planned at the waste-water treatment plant. The projects include a new $400,000 ultra-violet water disinfectant system which is required by the state to be up and running by 2017. The other multi-million dollar project is expected to begin within the next 4 to 5 years and will address include either the rebuilding of the plant or construction of the lagoons and is projected to start in 2018.

Lake View citizen’s will see an increase on their utility bills from $12.60 to $14.00 and the consumption fee will increase from $5.00 to $5.55 per 1,000 gallons of water metered. This means that for the average customer using 5,000 gallons of water monthly they will see an increase to their sewer bill by an average of $3.60. Lake View’s sewer rates are expected to rise 12.5% annually for the next four years in order to pay for the large scale capital projects. By increasing rates now the city plans to build up money reserves prior to the projects’ start.
