Icy road conditions yesterday morning were the cause of a two-vehicle accident on Highway 71 north of Carroll at approximately 6:16 a.m. Fifty-four-year-old Leon Lloyd Neville of Ida Grove was southbound on Highway 71 in a 2008 Chevrolet HHR when he slowed to turn east onto 150th Street and lost control on the slick roadway. He slid past the corner and then started sliding sideways down the highway and was struck on the driver’s side by a 1997 GMC Jimmy driven by 24-year-old Brandon Matthew Maasen of Carroll who was also southbound on Highway 71 behind the Neville vehicle. Both vehicles went into the east ditch. Neville and Maasen were treated for minor injuries by the Carroll County Ambulance and both vehicles have been deemed a total loss. The Carroll County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.
