Jefferson Main Street Kicks Off 2015 Investment Drive

Jefferson Matters: Main Street has kicked-off their 2015 Investment Drive with a focus on the priorities of creating a higher level of public visibility; showcasing and promoting their historic preservation district; and continuing the transformation toward a vibrant and dynamic business district. Program Director, Peg Raney, says that since becoming a Main Street community in 2012, Jefferson has had 18 buildings rehabilitated, 14 businesses that opened, relocated or expanded and 34 new jobs have been created. There has been over $3 million invested in one of the few intact town squares left in Iowa. Earlier this year, an empty building tour was held, which encouraged interested individuals and developers to see the possibilities in the vacant structures. Since that tour, Design Assistance plans have been developed for 17 properties. Their work continues as the Main Street board of directors have submitted a Main Street Challenge Grant for the property at 205 N. Wilson to serve as a showcase of historic preservation and they have plans to move forward with the Community Development Block Grant with the city of Jefferson. The board of directors is asking for residents to consider a three-year, tax-deductible pledge to support their mission to work together as a community to strengthen, support and energize Jefferson’s historic downtown district. There are no membership levels, any investment, large or small, is greatly appreciated. You can contact any board member for more information. The 2015 Investment Drive will be completed on Friday, Oct. 30.
