Krauel’s Humor And Humility Made Him Natural Choice For Public Service Award

Former City Manager, Gerald Clausen, has been settling into the retired life in Nebraska since resigning his position last July. He was back in the spotlight on Monday night, however, at the Carroll Chamber Banquet to present a special award to a person who played a significant role in his work and personal life in Carroll.

Clausen said the Public Service award winner provides hard work and leadership without any expectation of recognition. He has served as the President of the Iowa Chapter of the American Public Works Association and was named Public Works Leader of the Year among many other honors. He is also active in his church and a supporter of RAGBRAI.

Krauel, in his trademark humble manner, accepted the award and thanked the Chamber, saying he received a little tip on the way up to the podium.

He said he also needs to thank the city staff along with each and every city manager, mayor and council member he has worked with over the years. He added that this was more than just a job for him.

Krauel joins six other award winners that were honored at Monday night’s banquet. A full listing of winners can be found with below. Click the award name to see a story on the recipient.
