Middle and high school students in Iowa are invited to compete for a chance to win up to $1,000 for their college savings in the Monday Smart Kid and Money Smart Teen essay contest. Eligible junior high students can enter the contest by writing a 500-word or fewer essay that explores predatory lending, the reasons people might use these methods and the consequences of doing so. High school students must write an up to 650-word essay explaining what they would do if an investor provided $25,000 to solve an economic issue in your community. Completed essays are due by Thursday, March 13, and the winning submissions will receive $1,000 towards a college savings fund through the Iowa Bankers Association. A runner-up and three semifinalists will also be selected for each category and received $500 and $250 respectively.
