Carroll Woman Arrested Early Monday Morning After Allegedly Stabbing Woman

A Carroll woman was taken into custody early Monday morning after allegedly stabbing a woman with a knife. The Carroll Police Department was dispatched to an apartment in the 900 block of N. East Street at approximately 4:08 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities spoke with the victim, who told them 24-year-old Rae Beth Horton had stabbed her in the chest and had chased her with an axe. An officer observed dried blood on the victim’s shirt and confirmed she had sustained a half-inch puncture would to the upper left breast. Horton admits to being involved in a verbal argument but denies the assault. A search of the apartment revealed an axe under the pillow on a bed Horton had been sleeping. She was arrested and transported to the Carroll County jail where she was charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. Horton was released from custody on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in court Thursday, Sept. 3 for a preliminary hearing. Horton was also arrested on Feb. 4 by the Audubon Police Department for first-offense domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. That case is scheduled for trial in Audubon County District Court on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
