Impending Winter Storm Forces Chamber To Cancel 13th Annual Hoop It Up Basketball Tournament

For the first time in its 13-year history, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce Annual Hoop It Up Tournament has been cancelled due to the impending winter weather. Forecasts predict freezing rain, snow and high winds into Sunday. Program Director, Ashley Schable says making the decision to cancel the Chamber’s largest annual event was not easy, and many people helped make the call.

Winter weather has been a problem for Hoop It Up in the past, but the Chamber has never been forced to call off the tournament. According to Schable, it comes down to safety with potentially hazardous road conditions, and they could not justify having the teams that were signed up to play make the trip.

Due to amount of planning that goes into Hoop It Up, Schable says any attempt to reschedule the tournament just wasn’t feasible.

More than 65 teams were signed up to compete in the tournament. The Chamber said in a statement, “We are disappointed as we were looking forward to welcoming so many teams and fans to our community for a weekend full of games and so much more. We were also looking forward to watching all of our local teams play in front of a home crowd. We’re looking forward to Hoop It Up 2020.”
