Golfers Invited To Brave The Winter Cold For 30th Annual Arctic Open On Black Hawk Lake

Black Hawk Lake in Lake View will be transformed into a golf course this weekend as the community celebrates the 30th Annual Arctic Open. The event is hosted by the Black Hawk Men’s Club, and President, Eric Schultz, says dozens of teams have braved the cold and wintry weather to participate in the organization’s fundraising event. According to Schultz, the Arctic Open resembles a typical golf tournament, just on a frozen surface.

In the past, as many as 50 teams from all around the state have registered to take part in the Arctic Open, but they typically have between 30 and 40 groups that join in the fun. In addition to being a good way to get outdoors during the winter, Schultz says it is one of the main fundraisers they hold each year, regardless of how cold it gets.

The cost is $75 for a team of three, and registration is accepted up until Feb. 2, the day of the event. Schultz says there are multiple ways to get your group scheduled to compete.

Registration on the day of the event will be held at the Camp Crescent Campgrounds from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Golfers get underway at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. For more details or to register, follow the links included with this story on our website.
