Carroll Library Should Be Mostly Finished Mid-November, But One Necessary Item Will Delay Opening

Installation of glass panels on the front of the newly renovated Farner Government Building began to go up much more quickly after a wind delay earlier this week. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver says that even though it looks like there is still a lot left to do, they have been receiving estimated completion dates for the majority of the work in mid-November. He says the structural work, which is really time consuming, is pretty much all done.

One item, the elevator, is what will hold up the actual opening with an estimated arrival of mid-December with at least about two weeks for installation. The grand social staircase is installed and seating is currently being built. Pogge-Weaver says they may be on the cutting edge of a design that will be widely utilized in the future.

The library will include more public gathering spaces. These are not only for children. There is a large public meeting room accessible from the outside on the northeast edge of the building, smaller conference or study pods in the adult area and a special quiet spot for teens.

And sometimes it is the little things that make a big difference as textured, lettered wall coverings and alphabet lighting gets installed and the reading cubbies take shape in the children’s library. Pogge-Weaver says the current plan is to have a foundation-sponsored preview for donors around Jan. 9, prior to opening to the general public. Photos of the progress can be found below.
