Carroll Daily Times Herald Changing To Twice-Weekly Publication

An announcement was made Wednesday that a long-time Carroll daily publication will be transitioning to print and distribution two times per week. The Daily Times Herald made the announcement on social media and on the front page of Wednesday’s paper, saying the change will become effective in less than two weeks, on April 2. The paper will now be delivered on Tuesdays and Fridays and, according to co-owners Ann Wilson and Doug Burns, will be shifting to a focus on more local content. They also say the change is being made in response to a couple of different factors—the challenges in recruiting newspaper carriers and consumer demand. The paper will be rebranded as The Carroll Times Herald and will consolidate sports, news and features into the twice-weekly offerings. There is also a plan in place to bring news content to social media and other digital outlets. “This change in production schedule and evolution into an all-local format positions us to remain a vibrant legacy-owned news organization with three-generation roots here in Carroll County,” says Wilson. With the change, the annual subscription rate will be reduced from the current $119 to $96. Those who already hold subscriptions will have those automatically extended. James W. Wilson purchased the newspaper in 1944 after serving as manager since 1929. Ownership has remained in the Wilson family for the past 75 years. Carroll Broadcasting has reached out to Doug Burns for an interview. We will bring you more from him in an upcoming broadcast.
