Sen. Grassley Says History Shows Agriculture Will Bear Brunt Of Possible Trade War

Tensions continue to rise between the Unites States and its trade partners following the implementation of steel and aluminum tariffs by the Trump administration. U.S. Senator, Chuck Grassley, says many Iowa producers are concerned agriculture will bear the brunt of any economic consequences based on past experience.

According to Grassley, farmers are telling him they’ve been struggling with trade uncertainty for nearly a year and tariffs are only adding to their worries. Grassley says his effect on trade deals is limited to NAFTA.

Grassley says that does not mean he has given up on finding the best deal for Iowans. He has engaged the president and his administration on multiple occasions to make sure they understand the impact on farmers.

The future of NAFTA also remains cloudy. He and Sen. Joni Ernst are pushing the administration to wrap up negotiations on that deal by the end of summer.
