Two People Injured And Cited In Semi/Pickup Accident Monday

Both drivers were injured in a semi-tractor trailer and pickup truck accident Monday afternoon. At approximately 4:47 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of 180th Street and U.S. Highway 71. A 2010 Kenworth T60, driven by 53-year-old Duane Horton Spencer of Fontana, Kan. and owned by Fremont Contract Carriers of Fremont Neb., was northbound on Highway 71. A 2002 Chevrolet S10, driven by 67-year-old William Joseph Meister of Manning, was also northbound, but stopped to turn east onto 180th Street. Spencer was unable to avoid the Meister truck and tried to pass on the right shoulder. Meister turned right and collided with the semi. Spencer and Meister both reported injuries, but no details on whether or not they were transported for treatment are available at this time. There was an estimated $3,000 in damage to Meister’s vehicle and $4,500 to the semi. Spencer was cited for following too closely and Meister was cited for failure to produce proof of financial liability.
