The Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a high-speed pursuit Thursday night. The Jefferson PD reports that officers who were conducting a traffic stop in the 300 block of North Elm Street at about 5:21 p.m. when they saw a southbound vehicle pass at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle did not stop or slow down at posted stop signs, so officers gave pursuit. A Greene County Deputy was south of Jefferson on Highway 4 when the call went out. He was able to stop the vehicle after locking it into radar at 91 miles per hour. This led to the arrest of 49-year-old Shane Christopher Jewett of Paton for operating while intoxicated first offense, a serious misdemeanor, open container, excessive speed and failure to obey a stop sign, all simple misdemeanors.
