Jefferson Matters: Main Street is planning quite a big party on Thursday, Dec. 7 to kick-off the Christmas season. The annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, when Santa arrives to brighten the night. Carols will be sung by the roving Jazzatonics Choir of Greene County High School and refreshments will be served. The first 200 children who arrive at the event will receive a glow stick to wear to help light up the evening. There will be Sugar Plum fairies from Prairie Blue Creative Arts dancing and reindeer food will be available to children looking to attract Santa’s team on Christmas Eve. There are many other activities planned throughout the evening. The Thomas Jefferson Garden Board will also continue their annual tradition of tagging the tree with special wishes. One tag will then be chosen to receive a special prize. From 6:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. there will be a Christmas Tower Tune played on the new 47-bell carillon and Santa will meet the young ones at the top of the Mahanay Bell Tower. Free admission is provided by the Bell Tower Foundation.
