The Iowa Farmers Union (IFU) is hosting the annual Farm & Food Lobby Day this Thursday, Feb. 2, at the State Capitol in Des Moines. IFU Membership Coordinator, Deborah Bunka, says this grassroots event attracts family farm advocates from across the state.
Bunka says that being an Iowa Farmer’s Union member is not a requirement for attending the Farm & Food Lobby Day.
Everyone is also invited to attend and hear a presentation from a prominent Farm & Food File columnist
Some of the IFU legislative priorities for 2017 include: promoting a comprehensive plan to restore Iowa’s water quality; supporting independent, locally-owned family livestock farmers; investing in farmer-led efforts to grow local and regional food systems; and improving protections and resources for farm families dealing with pesticide drift.
