Ballot To Renew Ar-We-Va’s 10-Year-Old PPEL Goes To Voters Sept. 12

A vote to renew a 10-year-old Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Ar-We-Va Community School District is slated to take place later this summer. The school currently collects $1.67 per $1,000 of assessed home value for the PPEL fund. Thirty-three cents of that amount is approved by the school board, but the remaining $1.34 must be approved by voters. The levy was originally created to help fund improvements and maintenance for the district’s property. Superintendent, Jeff Kruse, says the impact from those funds can still be felt, even a decade later.

Funding for that effort came from the PPEL, and the levy is set to expire next year. The ballot requests the $1.34 rate be renewed for another 10 years and requires only a simple majority vote for approval. Kruse says the district has several projects that a PPEL would make possible.

Only individuals who are registered to vote and live within the Ar-We-Va Community School District are eligible to participate in the election. Voting opens beginning at noon at the Westside Community Building on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
