Traffic Enforcement Ramps Up For Thanksgiving Holiday

AAA is projecting that nearly 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, an increase of more than one million travelers compared to last year. Increased traffic on our roadways means that this Thanksgiving, area law enforcement agencies will be ramping up their coverage and looking for seat belt violations. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2014, 341 people died nationwide in traffic crashes, and 50 percent of those fatalities were not wearing a seat belt. Right here in Iowa last year, five people died over the Thanksgiving weekend. So this holiday, area police departments and county sheriff’s offices are encouraging everyone to wear their seat belts because “Buckling Up Could Save Your Giblets.”
