Monsanto-Ankeny has selected the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation (IALF) as the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the 2016 Monsanto Fund. The IALF has earmarked the funds to support the expansion of their FarmChat program. FarmChat uses technology to bring the farm into the classroom and students get the opportunity to speak directly to farmers, even taking digital rides in the combine. The $10,000 will help expand to allow more virtual field trips for students. Kim Schaaf, site lead at Monsanto-Ankeny, said, “Agriculture is the lifeblood of our company, and seeing innovative projects like this are very exciting.” So far this year, the Monsanto Fund has awarded $1.4 million to bring the five-year total to more than $7.5 million in donations to nonprofit organizations through its site grant initiative.
