Lake View property identified as possible site for future wastewater treatment lagoons

In order to comply with waste water treatment requirements set by the Iowa DNR city officials in Lake View have decided to build a new wastewater treatment plant centered around a lagoon system. The city has identified a piece of property which could potentially house the new plant according to City Clerk Scott Peterson.

Thirteen acres is the minimum amount of land required for the lagoon project. The identified land parcel is bigger than that so city officials are currently in discussions to decide if they’ll need to acquire all the land or just the minimum. Peterson adds that if the decision is made to locate the plant at the site they’ll enter into negotiations to make a purchase, or work with the land owner, and in doing so they’ll have to follow a specific set of ground rules.

A public hearing has been set for June 6 at 7:00 pm at the city council chambers in regards to the purchase of the property and officials will also provide an outline of the proposal. A timeline laid out by the Iowa DNR has construction of the new wastewater treatment plant beginning near the end of 2017 with most of the work to take place during the entire construction season in 2018.
