Last night (Tuesday), the Senate passed a resolution from Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst congratulating the community colleges of Iowa for 50 years of outstanding service to the state, the United States and the world. Grassley said Iowa’s community colleges have the flexibility to adapt to the needs of local students and local employers. He said he is always impressed when he learns of a unique partnership between a community college and a local business born out of a local need. This is only possible because the colleges are so deeply rooted in their communities. Those community colleges officially designated by the State Board of Education in 1966 include: North Iowa Area Community College; Northwest Iowa Community College; Iowa Central Community College; Southwestern Community College; Des Moines Area Community College; Western Iowa Tech; and Iowa Lakes Community College.
