Audubon County Man Sentenced To Up To Seven Years In Prison

An Audubon County man will be serving up to seven years in prison after entering into a plea deal that involved charges of child endangerment, domestic abuse assault, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a no contact order and tampering with witnesses. Thirty-three-year-old Jacky Ray Walters was sentenced Monday to a two year sentence on the tampering charge that is to be served concurrently with a two year sentence for second-offense domestic abuse assault. The drug tax stamp charge got Walters a five year sentence that is to be served concurrently with the domestic abuse and consecutively with the tampering charges. In exchange for his guilty pleas, the court dismissed the two child endangerment charges, a controlled substance violation, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and no contact order violations as well as a habitual offender designation. Walters was arrested for the domestic violence incident on July 20, 2019. On July 25, 2019 Walters was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. An original charge of intent to deliver was reduced to possession. Walters was also accused of having inappropriate contact with a witness in these cases as a means to try to influence testimony against him.
