Last Tuesday, Sept. 19, Kuemper Catholic School students in preschool through eighth grade took a walk and earned money for the support of their school. The second annual Father Kuemper Walk-a-Thon was a phenomenal success with those children raising over $24,044 to be used for items like playground equipment, artwork and statues, technology and other classroom supplies. The students solicited donations through sponsorships, and with each flat donation of $10, the student was entered into a raffle drawing that included prizes like a drone and an iPad. Then, last Tuesday, they hit the Sauk Rail Trail at Rolling Hills Park, with each grade taking turns walking before returning to the shelter house for music and a snack. Sixth-grader, Madeline Lenz, was the top earner, with $359 raised. The Walk-a-Thon is also a way to memorialize the school’s namesake for his frequent foot journeys. It is said that Father Kuemper was a regular walker, traveling that way to Parishes throughout the area, including Mount Carmel and Maple River.
