Two CHS Teams Make The Podium During IT Olympics

Four teams from Carroll High School (CHS) travelled to Hilton Coliseum in Ames last weekend to compete in the IT Olympics, with two of the teams placing in the top three. The IT Olympics encourages high school competitors to showcase their talents and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related fields during a two-day event that took place April 21 and 22. Fifteen students were split into teams focused on three different categories: robotics; multimedia marketing; and mobile app development. The robotics team was tasked with creating an autonomous robot capable of sumo-wrestling another robot and building a bridge which the robot could cross. The mobile app team was challenged to produce a game tailored to middle and high school users with MIT App Inventor 2. The multimedia teams presented full marketing presentations, encouraging women to get involved in information technology careers. The senior multimedia team, Hannah Rowedder, Katherine McCartan, Ashtynn Perrin and Lauren Kovarna, took second place in the competition with the freshman team, Jazmyn Muniz, Grace Friel and Maddie Hacker taking second place. A list of all the teams and their members can be found included below this story.
