Mike was born on January 27, 1973 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was the son of Blaine and Beth (Chambers) Case. As a young boy, he lived in Missouri Valley, then moved with his mother and sisters to Boone, Iowa. Mike graduated from Cedar Falls High School, after living with his foster parents Dave and Jan McDermott, in 1991. After graduating, he returned to Boone where he attended DMACC culinary school for one year. Mike then began his 30+ year cooking career, working in various restaurants and hospitals, including both Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, and St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. In 2015, after a bout of cellulitis in his feet caused by diabetes, he was in the hospital for surgery where he had a heart attack. He survived and “retired” from the professional kitchen. Out of his love and fire for God and serving others, Mike continued to cook for the youth and other church functions. Mike was united in marriage to Michelle Hinners on October 12, 2002 in Arcadia, IA. Mike and Michelle were blessed with two kids: Keagan and Lillea.
Mike is survived by his wife Michelle “Shelly”; son Keagan Case of Carroll; daughter Lillea Case of Carroll; two sisters: Donna Sempek of Omaha and Melinda Anderson of Boone; his mother-in-law Darlene Hinners of Carroll; his in-laws: Brian Hinners (Melinda) of Scranton, Todd Hinners (Shannon) of Carroll, Rhonda Croghan (Steve) of Carroll, Tim Hinners (Jess) of Carroll, and Chris Hinners (Whitney) of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother Beth Swope; his stepfather Edward Swope; his father Blaine Case; and his father-in-law Gene “Moochie” Hinners.
