Several students from surrounding school districts earn top marks at Iowa High School Speech Associations (IHSSA) Individual State Speech contest this past weekend with seven selected to perform pieces at the All-State Festival later this month. For the southwest district, Audubon High School had six students participate at Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson High School, with Lena Rieman earning a straight I rating in Reviewing and will perform that piece at All-State. The remaining schools are in the northwest district and competed at Denison High School. East Sac County (ESC) had four students advance to state with Emma Carico and Paige Hout selected to perform for all-state for solo musical theater and poetry respectively. Coon Rapids-Bayard (CR-B) had ten entries with Aaron Irlbeck being nominated to perform his after dinner speaking piece. Ar-We-Va sent five acts with Elaina Geake earning the top marks for storytelling. IKM-Manning had all eight students advance to state from districts, with Nathaneal Conner selected for both of his pieces with original oratory and reviewing for All-State. South Central Calhoun (SCC) sent five students to state, with Alibek Zhunussov receiving an invite to perform for improve. Honorees selected for All-State will perform at the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls on March 30. The complete list of students’ scores from state speech can be found included below.
