One driver was seriously injured Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle accident west of Churdan. According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 2:48 p.m. on D Avenue near the intersection with 140th Street. Authorities say a 2016 Ford Fusion, operated by Kevin Reiter of Lake City, was traveling northbound on D Avenue when a southbound 2008 Ford Explorer, operated by Dillon Johnson of Fort Dodge, crossed the centerline, resulting in a head-on collision. Johnson had to be mechanically extricated from his vehicle and was transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash. Both vehicles were totaled. The Churdan and Jefferson Fire Departments and Greene County Dispatch Center also assisted in Friday’s response. Authorities note Johnson was cited for driving while suspended and failure to maintain control.
