The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved of a teacher associate (TA) tuition plan to pay for the coursework for the para certification. Director of Student Services Crystal Boes says currently the district pays for the first of the three courses required for a teaching associate to become certified. Staff approached Boes earlier this year asking if it would be possible for all the trainings to be provided as they all coincide together.
The district offers a reimbursement plan with the teachers, but Boes is suggesting paying up front the $360 for the associates.
Each course contains two to three zoom meetings scheduled on specific days, then the participants have approximately a month to complete the rest of the classwork online on their own. Boes says TA’s have brought this to her attention because there is interest in becoming certified.
While not required for general TA’s, certification does come with a pay increase of 30 cents more an hour. Boes says there is one group of associates that are required to be certified and go through an additional training.
The CCSD Board of Education unanimously approved of the TA tuition plan, which will be implemented with district staff at the next cohort starting in the spring of 2026.
