Occupants of the Marty Tuel residence at 219 E. 2nd Street in Carroll were able to safely exit their home without injury after a fire broke out at approximately 1 a.m. this morning (Tuesday). Upon arrival, the Carroll Fire Department found the flames on the exterior of the home near the electric meter and extending into the wall cavity. Removal of portions of the siding and interior wall coverings was necessary to contain the blaze. Authorities believe the likely cause of the fire was an electrical short. Carroll Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, says they believe the short occurred in the main electric-service line running from the home’s meter to the service panel. This caused a fire to start in the wall cavity near the meter socket. Damage to the home is estimated at $9,000. The fire department was at the scene for approximately one and half hours.
