Voter Turnout Low For Most Counties In Tuesday’s City/School Elections

Turnout in yesterday’s (Tuesday) city/school elections was once again quite low, with fewer than a third of registered voters for most counties in the listening area. For Carroll County, only 4,141 ballots were cast, or 29.28 percent of the 14,143 registered voters. In Audubon County, voter turnout fell just short of 20 percent, with 763 ballots cast from the 3,902 registered voters. Calhoun County saw one of the highest participation rates in the region, with 30.63 percent of the 6,396 registered voters casting 1,959 ballots. Voter turnout in Crawford County, on the other hand, was one of the lowest at 16.32 percent, as 1,451 ballots were cast from the 8,892 registered voters. Greene County had the region’s second-highest voter turnout rate at 33.66 percent, with 2,055 ballots cast from the 6,105 registered voters. Guthrie County recorded 1,865 ballots from the 8,005 registered voters, or 23.3 percent. Sac County saw the highest voter turnout, with 2,872 ballots cast from the 6,884 registered voters, or 41.72 percent. Statewide, approximately 350,000 votes were cast from the 2.1 million registered voters, a turnout of only 16.58 percent.
