Local Bond Questions Fall Short Of Approval Threshold In Tuesday’s Elections, But School PPELs Managed To Pass

Overall, it was a tough night for bond supporters in the listening area, as only two of the five questions posed to voters managed to pass. Starting in Sac County, the $12.5 million jail project narrowly missed the 60-percent-plus one margin it needed for approval, garnering 1,616 yes votes, or 58.84 percent. In Calhoun County, a measure to implement a levy specifically to support emergency medical services operations missed the 60-percent threshold by less than three percent. Of the 1,922 ballots cast in Calhoun County’s election, 1,102, or 57.34 percent, favored the $0.65 per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation. As of IKM-Manning’s $19.5 million school bond, the measure failed with 57.1 percent of the 2,112 votes cast in favor, and 42.9 percent opposed. The physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL) amendments for the East Sac County (ESC) and South Central Calhoun (SCC) Community School Districts passed with 55.74 percent and 54.04 percent, respectively. Results from these and all of the area’s elections are included with this story on our website. Results are unofficial until canvassed by the respective county boards of supervisors.
