Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) contributed over $70 million to the county’s economy while employing nearly 600 individuals, according to a report released by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA). In the study, it was found that CCMH accounted for 8.7 percent of Crawford County’s gross domestic product, $38.3 million of which was contributed to wages for the 595 employees, who make up 8.9 percent of the county’s workforce. President and CEO of CCMH Erin Muck says the numbers are impressive, saying, “CCMH returns to the local economy more than 35 times the amount we collect in property taxes. Our ability to add jobs and pay competitive wages, while offering the highest quality in healthcare, helps all the citizens of Crawford County.” The hospital also delivered $2.3 million in community benefits, including charity care—free or discounted health services for patients who meet financial guidelines — and bad debt. Staff at the hospital also initiated over 4,000 encounters throughout Crawford County through its community service programs. A link to view the full IHA report is included below.
