Absentee Voting Opens Today For Nov. 4 City/School Elections

Absentee voting begins today (Wednesday) for Iowa’s city and school elections that are scheduled for Nov. 4. Absentee voting can be completed in one of two ways: in-person or by mail. If an eligible voter is planning to vote early at a county auditor’s office, election officials recommend residents confirm their registration status, review sample ballots, and check their photo ID is current prior to heading to their respective county auditor’s office to avoid any potential complications. If a voter is not registered and does not have a current photo ID, they can still cast a provisional ballot. However, they will be required to return to prove their identity via an alternative identification form, or another registered voter from their district can attest to their authenticity. Requested vote-by-mail ballots will be sent to voters starting today (Wednesday), and those should begin arriving in voters’ mailboxes in the next several days. Officials say those ballots must be returned to the auditor’s office by the time polls close on Election Day to be counted. The Iowa Secretary of State’s website has multiple tools to assist potential voters in checking their registration status, tracking their ballot, and more at sos.iowa.gov.
