Carroll County Conservation staff and board members celebrated the 20-year anniversary since the grand opening of the Swan Lake Conservation Education Center. Carroll County Conservation Director Jason Christensen says that the physical building has been opened to the public for two decades, but the plans and idea behind it extended well before that.
Fundraising for the roughly $1.8 million to build the center took a bit, with Christensen saying construction began in 2003, with the open house celebrated in the spring of 2005. Christensen says the center became home to the board of directors’ offices, the Environmental Education programs, wildlife displays, the gift shop, plus much more.
Christensen says the past 20 years has seen some changes, both to the education center and to various programs and education opportunities offered through Carroll County Conservation.
Christensen wishes to thank the community and all who continue to support Carroll County Conservation, by participating in programs and donating when able, to continue providing educational resources. He encourages all to come out and visit the Education Center Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as winter hours are now in place.
