Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has announced the special election to fill a vacancy in Iowa House District 7, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas, and Sac Counties, and portions of Webster County, will be held on Dec. 9. This special election is necessary following the resignation of Rep. Mike Sexton, who stepped down from his position in the Iowa House to accept an appointment from President Donald Trump to serve as the Iowa USDA Rural Development Director. Prior to his resignation, Sexton served as the chair of the House Agriculture Committee and had been a member of the Iowa House of Representatives since 2014.
