No injuries were reported following a substantial fire Monday afternoon at a rural property near Hamlin. At approximately 2:47 p.m., a fire was reported in a machine shed in the 2500 block of Jay Avenue. Multiple agencies, including the Audubon, Brayton, Exira, and Kimballton Fire Departments, responded to the scene. When the crews arrived, they found a large area of the structure and nearby farm equipment on fire. Crews brought the fire under control in about two hours. Departments cleared the scene before 6 p.m. Damage to the structure was extensive, and the machine shed will likely be a total loss. The cause of the fire remains unidentified, and an investigation is ongoing. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office and Audubon County Emergency Management also assisted at the scene.
