Carroll’s parks will soon have a core communication board in all of its parks, thanks to a Carroll woman and her recent fundraising campaign. Margaret Halbur, MA, CCC-SLP, is a speech language pathologist with the Heartland Area Education Agency (AEA) who works with students from around the region who have challenges with speech or expression. She says these boards are basic tools that can make a world of difference.
She’s already raised enough to print the boards, and the lumber and concrete were provided through generous donations. Halbur says they only have around $1,500 left to raise to cover the installation labor costs and the cost of the memorial plaques. She anticipates the boards will be up in all 10 of Carroll’s parks by the end of the fall.
Donations can be arranged by using the contact information provided in this story on our website. Halbur expects these boards to see plenty of use.
Halbur says she hopes to one day work with some of the smaller communities in Carroll County and into the surrounding areas to install similar boards in their parks. Each board costs approximately $500 to install. Again, donations can be made by calling 712-830-4454 or by email at hlawplc@gmail.com
