The Audubon City Council has approved a resolution at it’s last meeting to enter into a loan agreement to start the process of the city’s fire department’s new station. In February 2024, the city secured a $2.8 million U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) low-interest loan to financially contribute to the construction of an 11,700 sq. ft pre-engineered metal building. The volunteer-based department has been working with city officials for years, attempting to build a new space, but failed two bond referendums and was fighting constraints that were caused by the new emergency equipment vehicles size. The currently building has been occupied since 1975, and required three additions, including a bay for the ambulance in 1996. The new station will include four bays, a workspace for the firefighters and equipment and supply storage areas. The department is currently in the planning stage with JEO Consulting Group.
