Carroll City Council Approves Request To Name Merchants Park Field After Longtime Groundskeeper

The Carroll City Council approved a resolution at their meeting Monday to name the field at historic Merchants Park after a long-time city employee and dedicated groundskeeper, Scott Parcher. Parcher was methodical in his attention to the field for more than four decades, ensuring the ball diamond shone as it served as the home for the Carroll Tigers, Kuemper Knights, and, more recently, the Carroll Merchants, each summer. Parcher’s commitment to the park earned him the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 2025 President’s Award and helped Merchants Park win the association’s Iowa High School Diamond of the Year Award three times. The council voted 5-1 in favor of naming the field after Parcher, At-Large Councilman LaVern Dirkx being the sole nay vote. The city will work with the Carroll Athletic Association to purchase signage to be unveiled during the state baseball tournament next week at Merchants Park honoring Parcher. Merchants Park will retain its name following the addition; games will now be played at Scott Parcher Field at Merchants Park.
