Phyllis, daughter of Jerry and Hazel (Vance) Carlyle, was born June 3, 1928, at Lohrville, Iowa. She grew up in Lohrville, graduating from Lohrville High School in 1947.

On November 18, 1947, Phyllis was united in marriage with Harold Weeks at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lohrville. The couple lived on various farms and finally settled in Dedham where they bought their first home and raised a family. In retirement they moved into Carroll.

Phyllis was a member of the Guild and enjoyed singing in the choir wherever she attended Mass. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, doing paint-by-numbers, and spending time with her dogs Dino, Lacy, and Missy.  Phyllis cherished the time spent with her family.  She was a kind and loving mom who always encouraged her seven children through life, she was always available to support and offer her help when any of her children or grandchildren needed it.

Phyllis spent many years working at the famous A&W in Carroll, where she enjoyed mentoring all the youngsters that worked with her, she was like a mom to them and loved it.  One of her favorite stuffed animals was the A&W root beer bear that she has held onto for the last 45 years.

Phyllis and her husband Harold loved to garden.  They spent many hours attending to their large annual garden in Dedham.  You could always find her there, she enjoyed canning vegetables and making cherry pies with her fresh cherries.  She loved to share her pies with family and neighbors.  Many of her grandchildren would come visit and chase the chickens while she worked in the garden.

One of Phyllis’s favorite times a day was coffee with her neighbor friends, Bertie, Jane, and Florine.  They spent many years meeting each morning to catch up.  Phyllis was also a big fan of bingo.  She loved playing bingo as long as she had a lineup of troll dolls in front of her and several bright colored ink daubers for good luck.

Phyllis was overjoyed with seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; she had many years of happy times with all of them.  Some of the best memories with her grandkids include time in their Dedham house on the porch swing, in the garden, walks to the park, attending St. Joesph’s church in Dedham, and bowls of cool whip!

Phyllis is survived by four children: Peggy Bauer of Manning; Angie Weeks and fiancé Bryon Miller of Boone; Terry Weeks and wife Jodie of Ankeny; and Amy Thiel and husband Tyrone of Granger; 15 grandchildren: Thomas (Danny), Margie, Melanie, Michael, Mary, Amber, Luke, Sophia, Isabell, Trey, Sydney, Holly, Jamie, Justin and Stacie; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister Jeri Ann Sowden of Rockwell City; a brother Rick Carlyle and wife Genny of Auburn; her daughters-in-law, Linda Weeks of Manilla & Janet Weeks of Carroll.
