City Of Manning Awarded $2,500 Through AARP Community Challenge Grant

The City of Manning was one of seven Iowa neighborhoods awarded a 2025 AARP Community Challenge Grant. Throughout the state, a total of $75,506 was distributed to fund quick-action projects to improve public places, transportation, housing and more to make the communities more livable with a focus on older adult needs. AARP Iowa State Director Michael Wagler says “AARP Iowa is proud to work with communities across the state to help make them more livable for people of all ages. These projects are about turning great local ideas into real improvements to make life better, especially for older Iowans.” The City of Manning will use the $2,500 to advance disaster preparedness by creating a response kit for the community, to helo volunteers assist the public safely and effectively, and to host trainings to help prepare checklists and personal kits to be ready for any disaster. Other Iowa projects include Bloomfield for updated crosswalks, Bettendorf to host an accessory dwelling unit design competition, Holy Cross to renovate tennis courts and construct pickleball courts, Iowa City to expand a library program to include individuals in wheelchairs, Nevada to transform two downtown areas into accessible father spots and Villisca to add 20 weatherproof display stands to its walking trail. Since 2017, AARP Iowa has awarded 42 grants totaling over $457,000 to nonprofit organizations and government entities across the state through the nationwide Livable Communities initiative.
