Enrollment at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) reported a 4.2 percent increase in traditional credit enrollment in the spring 2025 semester. According to administrators, DMACC now has over 10,000 full- and part-time students taking over 101,000 credits, a 5.4 percent increase from last year. The rise in credit hours outpacing enrollment growth suggests students are taking on heavier courseloads. Enrollment growth was seen across all categories, as face-to-face classes increased by 5.9 percent, online enrollment rose by 3.9 percent, and first-time student numbers grew by 4 percent. Including dual-enrolled high school students, DMACC’s total spring enrollment stands at 20,788 students, taking 126,736 college credits. Erica Spiller, the vice president of student affairs, says, “I’m pleased to see enrollment has been consistently trending positively. It is excellent to see the numbers were up across all student enrollment sectors, including new students, returning students, and those transferring to DMACC from other institutions. It shows Iowans are interested in earning a college credential at DMACC.” Health Sciences and Education and Humanities programs saw the most significant increases, both up 22 percent, followed by Business at 17 percent and Building Trades and Transportation with 11 percent growth.
