A Carroll man was killed yesterday (Monday) afternoon after two semi-tractor trailers collided at the Highway 59/141 intersection. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:43 p.m. and involved a 2015 Freightliner, operated by 23-year-old Hayden Leonard of Millville, Minn., and a 2018 Peterbilt, driven by 65-year-old Douglas Hook of Carroll. Authorities say the Hook semi was traveling westbound on Highway 141 and attempted to cross the intersection with U.S. Highway 59. The Leonard Freightliner was traveling northbound on the highway and collided with the driver’s side of the Hook semi. The Peterbilt was pushed into the northwest ditch, where it came to rest following the crash. The Leonard semi stopped west of the intersection on V Avenue. Hook was transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital by Crawford County Emergency Medical Services but died due to the extent of his injuries. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
