Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Monday that her office would be joining 21 other states in opposing new U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) regulations prohibiting gas stoves that do not meet environmental standards. According to the Biden Administration, a recent study found that 20 out of 21 gas stoves consume more than the arbitrary standard set by the DoE of less than 1,204 kBtu per year. Bird says, “This is yet another power grab from the Biden Administration to advance their radical climate change agenda. And this time, it’s hitting us at home. While Americans struggle to make ends meet, Biden wants to ban the sale of most gas stoves and burden Americans with higher costs. We must hold the federal government accountable.” The administration says the rule will cut domestic carbon dioxide production by nearly 22 million metric tons, just shy of 245 thousand tons of methane and other greenhouse gases. The Louisiana and Tennessee Attorneys General penned the original letter to the DoE, and a copy of it can be included below.
