The Birth Place at St. Anthony Regional Hospital is excited to announce they are now a collection depot for the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Iowa. Brooke Bass, a lactation specialist at the Birth Place, explains how the depot functions.
Before the Birth Place became a depot, the nearest drop-off point was more than a 45-mile drive from Carroll. Bass says not just any mother can donate, however, as there is a certification process.
Bass says donating is easy once a mom has been approved. She adds there is almost always a need for milk due to a variety of reasons.
Local mothers interested in participating in the program, either as donors or recipients, are encouraged to contact the Birth Place directly by calling 712-792-3581. Links with more information about the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Iowa are included with this story on our website.
